There is a tower (from 1770), and a ruby bay at Elie and Earslferry. I wrote this song during a stay at Kilconquhar. Lady Janet Anstruther was painted by Joshua Reynolds in 1761 - the Tate describes her as 'renowned for her beauty and for her reputation as a flirt. Despite her social elevation through marriage to a baronet, on at least one occasion Lady Anstruther was taunted in the streets for her supposed gypsy descent'. The story goes that she liked to bathe nude on Ruby Bay, and that her servants would ring a bell on the beach to inform anyone there that they were to leave sharpish.
lyrics
In the little harbour town of Elie & Earlsferry
There stands a cliff-top tower where the Lady Jane would bathe
And if the men upon the shore were deemed to be too many
They wouldn't get the chance to see the Jewel's of Ruby Bay
Ring the bell, ring the bell - I want to take off all my clothes
Ring the bell, ring the bell - you boys better pray now for my soul
Ring the bell, ring the bell - I do believe that you know why
Ring the bell, ring the bell - there's moisture down my inner thigh
Lady Jane, you're a saucy devil, gonna curse your famliy and make you pay!
Paint the soul, paint the soul, if you cannot paint the man
Paint the soul, paint the soul, use the finest paints you can
Hear the softness of her voice, as she turns her head to say
"Joshua, my dear friend, I'll see you down on Ruby Bay"
Lady Jane you're a saucy devil, gonna paint a ribbon around your neck!
Ring the bell, ring the bell - can you see my jewels glow?
Ring the bell, ring the bell - as the blood into it flows
Ring the bell, ring the bell - aw, you cannot blame the cold
Ring the bell, ring the bell - place your hand within my fold
Ring the bell, ring the bell - for I fear that I will die
Ring the bell, ring the bell - if you don't find these jewels fine
Lady Jane, you're a saucy devil gonna curse your family and make you pay!
